WHAT'S UP with Nevada's Dept. of Ag & horses?

Dear Readers, check out the link below to see what's happening here --

http://www.kbrhorse.net/

I'm doing what I can to help keep the horses free and to make a place where you can view -- but not disturb -- them when you come to wild Nevada.
Hugs to you,
Terri

Rocking (like literally)

Dear Readers,
Lots of earthquake activity near my house...
Last night was quite a bumpy ride and I can't say I like it much. Sure, it is kind of exciting, but we've been having hundreds of little quakes in addition to the big ones and it's sort of like feeling butterflies in your stomach combined with that pressed-down feeling you get in summer just before a big storm.
I may have mentioned FLUMES in the Phantom books. They're made of wood and carry water from one place to another, and sometimes logs, usually in agricultural areas. If you'd like to see what one looks like when it's struck by an earthquake thrown boulder late at night, have a look:

this one was built along the Truckee River in the late 1800s to carry lumber from Lake Tahoe down the mountain to Reno.

and if you'd like to read more interesting stuff about the quakes we're having, check out this page:

. I live just a few miles past Mogul in Verdi, Nv.

Hoping you'll hold good thoughts that my old house just keeps swaying instead of cracking anyplace,
Terri

Earthquakes in the Neighborhood

Dear Readers,
You are so nice! Thanks for checking on me after the swarm of earthquakes we've had in the Reno/Verdi area. So far, my old house is still standing and the horses are a bit skittish, but still hungry!
You're the best,
Terri

PHANTOM'S HOME HERD IN DANGER

Dear Readers,
The Phantom's home herd is in danger and you can help.
Please read the article below. Tomorrow I will tell you what you can do!

Best,
Terri

Country singer Willie Nelson has joined in a fight to preserve a wild horse herd roaming mountains near the old Nevada mining town of Virginia City — and Gov. Jim Gibbons is getting a lot of calls as a result.

Singer-songwriter Lacy J. Dalton, who lives near Virginia City, asked Nelson to help stop what she and other wild horse advocates saw as a move by the Nevada Agriculture Department to round up a herd of about 1,200 horses for eventual livestock sales — where they could be sold for slaughter.

“That’s exactly what they intend to do,” Dalton said. “It’s probably fueled by old-paradigm thinking about the horses, not seeing that they can be the most tremendous asset to tourism here in Northern Nevada.”
“Over my dead body will they take those horses,” said Dalton, who toured with Nelson, also a wild-horse advocate, in the 1980s. “It’s wrong, it’s stupid and shortsighted.”

FOAL CAM ! ! !

Dear Readers,
Pacific Pintos, home of the most awesome miniature horses I've ever met have LIVE cameras in their new mom and mom-to-be stalls!

http://wefoal.com/_2008/pacpintos/cam.htm

I just watched one little foal (born Friday) take quite an attitude with his mama. He wanted to eat. She wanted to eat. She nudged him away, so that she could concentrate on her feed and he turned around and kicked her with both tiny hooves!
This is all live. Two mares are ready to foal any hour and two have brand new babies.
I know you'll love exploring the site and picking out your favorites as much as I did! In fact, if you're up for a treasure hunt, see if you can find the horse I "ahhhhhh" ed over. His name is Pacific Black Magic

Have fun!
Terri

CONRAD BURNS to lobby for Horse Slaughter & AQHA

Dear Readers,
This just sickens me. As a strong advocate for the Quarter Horse, even basing my current series on a Quarter Horse ranch, I'm ashamed.
The AQHA has, according to todays news, hired Conrad Burns -- famous for his ethics violations -- to lobby for them IN FAVOR OF HORSE SLAUGHTER.

Celebrate

Dear Readers,
Today is TANGIBLE KARMA day, meaning that you should discover that it feels as good to GIVE as well as GET things!
If you want to send a friend a horse, I can help!
1. Write down your friends' email addresses
2. Go to The Phantom Stallion
3. click on PHANTOM FUN (see it there on the left side of the bulletin board, near Tempest?)
4. when you get to the next page, look on the left side and click on the POSTCARD link
5. Pick the photo or cover shot you think suits your friends best and GIVE, GIVE, GIVE.

Now I think I'll go give my dog a walk!
Hugs,
Terri
