Early News

Dear Readers,

A hearing date has been set for H.R. 503, a bill that would permanently ban the slaughter of horses for human consumption in foreign countries. It is next Tuesday at 2 p.m., which means you have time to email or call your Congressman.

Remember when Congress voted that horse meat couldn't be inspected by U.S. Department of Agriculture inspectors? We thought that was good news, because our horses' bodies couldn't leave the country without being inspected, so what would be the point of killing them? But then the Department of Agriculture encouraged foreign meat inspectors to come into American horse slaughter houses and do the inspections.

So the killing goes on, but it could stop next week.

If this is important to you, let your Congressman know you want H.R. 503 to pass and you will be watching to see how your REPRESENTATIVE represents you!

Here's a quick way to help the horses

1. Go to Congress.org

2. Look for the blue bar on the left and click on CONGRESS

3. Enter your zip code

4. A screen will come up with your senators and Representative(s) -- click on the Rep.

5. Then, you'll get a screen with Washington, D.C. and LOCAL (free) phone numbers

It's that easy and you deserve to tell your representative how you want to be represented!

Hint: When you call, it's very unlikely you'll talk to your representative, but someone will take your name and pass on your message!
