5 Other Things to do During the Super Bowl
Hi -- I know people who love watching the Super Bowl with their families. I have friends who go skiing because they don't care about football, and I've read that Super Bowl Sunday is one of the highest days for domestic abuse.
If you don't live in the U.S., I should explain that the Super Bowl is to football what the World Cup is to soccer -- only not as fun to watch, if you're me :) ! And the abuse part, is surely because, like the World Cup, this game inspires too much drinking.
If you'd like to make tomorrow -- or any other day -- productive & fun, consider doing some of the things below:
HELP THE HORSES: HR 249 is a bill introduced in Congress to restore protection for wild horses. What's the best way to make sure your opinion's heard? As Bonnie Matton, a wild horse activist and friend says: REMEMBER, THEY CAN JUST 'THROW AWAY' FAXES AND EMAILS, BUT THEY HAVE TO ANSWER THE PHONE AND TAKE NOTE OF THE CALL!
Here's a super-simple way to get your member of congress' phone number. Go to:
http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/ type in your zip code and then, when a list of names pops up, write down the name & phone number of the person with REPRESENTATIVE before her/his name.
Then, Monday or Tuesday, phone and say, I would like to urge _______ to support HR 249, to stop the slaughter of wild horses.
PLAY WITH WORDS:
Have you ever noticed that lots of star athletes have nicknames? I mean, Eldrick Woods' nickname is Tiger..and triathelete Wendy Ingraham's nickname is Wingnut. One creative way to make up your Super Star name is by using the name of one of your pets for your first name, and adding any street you've ever lived on as your last name. For instance, I could be a softball star named Rookie Kaye or a soccer player named Bootsy Bridge.
PLAY WITH YOUR PETS: teach your pet a trick!
GET SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL FOR FREE: Want a free, autographed WILD HORSE ISLAND bookmark? Just email me your mailing address (after checking with your parents) and I'll pop one in the mail to you as soon as I can.
LEARN SOMETHING: go to Google.com, click on the NEWS tab and put in words that interest you...WILD HORSES, for instance, will being up lots of news stories...or SEA LIONS...or PHANTOM STALLION ...
Have fun & stay safe!
