GRAY DAPPLE RESCUE

Dear Readers,
Ever since a herd of cremello horses appeared in my WILD HORSE ISLAND books, I've been getting questions about them. Today I came upon one of the prettiest (and luckiest, as it turns out!) cremellos ever. Her name is UNICORN and you can read her story (and explore a cool website) here:

Chills

Dear Readers,
I'm preparing for my 18 day expedition away from home (complete with mosquito netting headdress...very attractive!), but I'm putting the finishing touches on my monthly newsletter, too and came across a horse song I'd never heard before.
Do yourself a favor. Visit http://ahdf.org/ AMERICAN HORSE DEFENSE FUND's website and click on the song PONY.
Have a great Saturday.

PHANTOM SIGHTING

Dear Readers,
I've told you before about Palomino, a volunteer at the Wild Horse Sanctuary. She leads trail rides, was one of the founders of the Phantom PhanClub, makes the world's best cheesecakes and more.
She was great enough to send me this note after she spotted the Phantom family during one of her rides!

High in the hills, the Phantom and his band move into the setting sun. For Phantom, the sanctuary has become a safe haven. He keeps his four mares and young son away from the masses, only letting us catch a glimpse of his family now and then. He scoffs at the masses of horses following the feed truck, preferring to find his own food, keeping away and living the way he did in the hills of Nevada. He is a magnificent stallion and his son mimics his behavior. Phantom has truly found his home.

Ride on,
Terri

WONDERFUL Photos of the Virginia Range herd

Dear Readers,
I've been telling you about the Nevada Department of Agriculture wanting to round up all the wild horses on the Virgina Range (the real Phantom's territory) because the horses are starving and ruining the range.
These incredible photos were taken this week. The horses look incredible after wintering in the snow and the sagebrush and rabbit brush are green and tasty!

Please check them out!

YOU CAN HELP THE HORSES RIGHT THIS MINUTE

Dear Readers,
At last, here's an online petition to help the wild horses remaining in the Phantom's territory.
The governor and department of Agriculture of Nevada thinks because summer is coming that we're TOO BUSY TO CARE.
Please show the governor that this is FAR from the truth!
I've posted the text of the petion below. Please note that only your name, city and state will appear. Here's mine: - Terri Farley Verdi, NV USA -

http://www.ecis.com/~kbr/guestbook.html

THE VIRGINIA RANGE WILD HORSES ARE IN DANGER OF BEING SENT TO SLAUGHTER DUE TO THE ACTIONS OF THE NEW DIRECTOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, RECENTLY APPOINTED BY GOV. GIBBONS. DIRECTOR LESPERANCE HAS RECOMMENDED THE REMOVAL OF MOST OF THE WILD HORSES IN THE VIRGINIA RANGE AND IS MAKING STATEMENTS WHICH ARE NEITHER TRUE NOR ACCURATE REGARDING THE CONDITION OF THE HORSES AND RANGE.
WE HEREBY DEMAND THE VIRGINIA RANGE WILD HORSES BE GIVEN THE PROTECTION FROM MASS ROUND UPS WHICH WILL RESULT IN THE HORSES BEING SOLD FOR SLAUGHTER.

TUSK!

Dear Readers,
I FINALLY was able to add TUSK one of my favorite ever songs as MYSPACE music!

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=147881652

I know, the title doesn't sound like horses, but close your eyes and imagine the Phantom coming over a mountain crest with his band of wild mares...
You can see manes waving in the wind and hear the thunder of hooves!!!!
Hugs to you all,
Terri

May Newsletter

HI
If you've signed up for my newsletter, you've already read the May edition. Hope you liked it!
If you haven't, here's a link to do that http://phantomstallion.com/newsletter.shtml . I had lots of fun with Sam's blog this time, but then, visiting the River Bend gang is always fun!
Have fun watching the Kentucky Derby today!
Terri

p.s. Did you know Barbaro has two full brothers? Listen to an interview with Barbaro's last jockey, here:
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=90157350

p.p.s. remind yourself a full third of Thoroughbred race horses are sent to slaughter because they aren't fast enough :(
