Nevada Governor must rescue Nevada Mustangs
TRAP - CASTRATE - DESTROY
The Virginia Range wild horses fall
under the control of the Nevada Department of Agriculture. State laws
designate them “stray livestock” no matter how many generations they’ve roamed the sagebrush hills of the Silver State.
This means
they can be and are taken to livestock auctions where they are sold by the pound to kill buyers.
Wild horse advocates worldwide
asked Nevada Governor Bryan Sandoval to halt the “trap – castrate – destroy” cycle.
October 4,
2013: private-public partnership is created to cut NDA costs and save mustangs.
January 2014: ,ASPCA’s Kevin O'Neill and
wild horse advocates meet with NDA to express concern at the Department's failure to implement agreement. Advocates are told action is pending.
February: wild horse trapping continues
March 2014
: silence from the governor’s office as NDA reverts to “trap – castrate –
destroy”
Today: Email, Phone, Fax the Governor and tell him to act on this win-win way to humanely manage the Virginia Range horses
ON THE RANGE through the proposed private-public partnership.

Rocky Tries Out a Saddle
Dear Readers,
Do you remember this photo of Virginia Range orphan Rocky, the Rockstar "dancing" in a human house, all decked out in his diaper?
He's growing up and trying out different gear now and
PALOMINO ARMSTRONG, rescuer of many wild foals, sent along a letter and photos of his progress.
"Because of snow and ice, my plans to
take the Rock Star out in the round pen to be "saddled up" were foiled.
Thanks to our awesome nursery though, I was able to safely bring him in
and we practiced saddling up.
"Man" enough to wear pink (and a saddle)
First of
all, I know he is a boy, and the blanket is pink. But he is a very
manly mustang and can wear it well. Also, the saddle does not fit him
properly (of that I am well aware), but for saddle training it is
perfect. It is light and, as he will only be about one year old
on March 12, 2013, that is very important. It also has the appropriate
things to hang on his sides and the straps to go under his belly and
between his legs.
"As is very
evident, the Rock Star has absolutely no concern about wearing his gear
and moving around in it. He trusts us completely and loved the
attention. By the time he is ready to ride, the gear should be about as
comfy and non-existent as his mane to him."

Virginia Range Stallion on film
Dear Readers,
The real Phantom Stallion roamed the Virginia Range before he was captured.
The Nevada Department of Agriculture -- unlike today's Dept. -- offered wild horse advocates the chance to save him.
Please listen to these two news reports (there's some repetition, but it's totally worth it to watch the horses!), and hear what good publicity this stallion is for the state of Nevada. Then, ask yourself why the Governor doesn't understand.
PHANTOM STALLION news report #1The Capture
PHANTOM STALLION news report #2 The Release
I hope the vision of this amazing mustang inspires you to new ideas & solutions for our horses.
Enjoy!

Be Heard for the Herds
 |
Young people like Robin Warren, above, are welcome at peaceful protests against slaughter of the West's wild horses |
|
When I called Governor Brian Sandoval's office and asked that he stop the trapping and abuse of Nevada's wild horses, he didn't hear me.
When other members of the public called and asked
Governor Brian Sandoval
to halt Nevada
Department of Agriculture's war against Nevada's
wild horses, he didn't hear them.

Virginia Range mustangs at the slaughter auction. They are confused by the alien environment and dazzled by flood lights. |
Since Governor Brian Sandoval can't hear us, we are taking our request for conversation closer to his Carson City office.
You have 5 days to plan to join our peaceful protest:
Friday,
January 4, 2012
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of the Legislative Building (Hwy

Dress warmly!
If you absolutely cannot join us, email click here to Email Governor Sandoval
The next auction is January 9, 2013; There is no time to lose.

If you've read the PHANTOM STALLION books, you're familiar with Mrs. Allen of the Blind Faith Sanctuary. The lady on the right, above, is Mrs. Shirley Allen & I based the fictional Mrs. Allen on her. |
